Three killed after vehicle plunges into Yamuna river in Uttarkashi
Dehradun: Three people were killed after the utility vehicle they were travelling in fell into the Yamuna river near Chami in the Damta region of Uttarkashi district on Sunday. Officials said that the vehicle, which was on its way from Vikasnagar to Mori via Purola carrying grocery supplies, lost control near Chami and plunged into the river.
Upon receiving information from Purola police station, a team from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), led by sub-inspector Naveen Kumar, was immediately dispatched from the Barkot post with rescue equipment. "All three occupants of the vehicle were found dead when the team reached the site. SDRF personnel retrieved the bodies from the submerged vehicle and handed them over to the district police for further legal proceedings," an official said.
The victims of the accident were identified as Naushad and Praveen Jain — both residents of Jeevangarh in Vikasnagar, Dehradun. The third deceased, Ajay Shah, was originally from Chaubeyya in Sasaram, Rohtas district of Bihar, but was residing in Jeevangarh, Vikasnagar, Dehradun. Further investigation is on.
