Assam CM to attend 59th Mopin festival in Arunachal
Itanagar: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will join the 59th Central Mopin Festival celebrations at Aalo in West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh on April 5.
Arunachal CM Pema Khandu and cultural affairs minister Dasanglu Pul will also attend the event. The two CMs will participate in the festivities at Aalo's Gumin Kiin.
Mopin, a prominent agricultural festival of Arunachal Pradesh, is celebrated by the Galo community across West Siang, Leparada, Lower Siang, East Siang, Upper Subansiri districts, and other Galo-inhabited areas. The festival symbolises gratitude for a good harvest and prayers for peace and prosperity.
Arunachal governor KT Parnaik extended his greetings to the people of the state, particularly the Galo community, on this festive occasion. He expressed hope that the vibrant festival would bring peace, prosperity, and happiness to all.
"Mopin is one of the most cherished and colorful festivals of Arunachal Pradesh, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Galo tribe," the governor said. He emphasised the festival's role in preserving the community's traditions and values.
"I am confident that this ethno-traditional celebration will continue to strengthen the socio-economic progress of the tribe and uphold its revered way of life," he added.
The governor also joined the Galo community in offering prayers to Donyi Polo and Ane Mopin, seeking divine blessings for the well-being and prosperity of all.
