VIJAYAWADA: BJP has nominated Paka Venkata Satyanarayana, a senior leader of the party in Andhra Pradesh, for the Rajya Sabha. With nearly five decades of political experience, Satyanarayana, an advocate by profession, has been an integral part of BJP's journey in the state.
Born in 1961 at Bhimavaram, he started his journey in public service in 1976 with the RSS before joining BJP in 1980.
"The central election committee of the BJP has decided one name (Satyanarayana) for the ensuing bye election to the Council of states (Rajya Sabha) from Andhra Pradesh," as announced by BJP national general secretary and party headquarters in-charge Arun Singh through a press release.
Satyanarayana, a practising lawyer, has served in various party positions in Bhimavaram and held the post of BJP's vice president for Andhra Pradesh from 2018 to 2021.
He currently chairs the BJP state disciplinary committee and previously contributed to the party's election manifesto committee for both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana during the 2014 elections. Additionally, he contested in the 1996 Parliamentary elections from Narasapuram constituency.
The vacancy in the Rajya Sabha emerged after former YSRCP leader V Vijayasai Reddy stepped down.
According to Andhra Pradesh BJP leader Pathuri Nagabhushanam's statement, with Satyanarayana's election, the party's representation from the southern state in the Rajya Sabha will increase to two members. At present, BC leader R Krishnaiah represents the BJP from the state in the upper house.
