Shaquille O'Neal, the basketball legend, has reportedly ended his love affair with Tesla's electric vehicles, citing concerns over the Cybertruck's limited electric range. Basketball legend Shaquille O'Neal has reportedly ended his love for Tesla’s electric vehicles. The revelation came during a recent episode of “The Big Podcast” featuring comedian Karlous Miller, where the NBA Hall of Famer cited concerns over the vehicle's electric range as the primary reason for the switch.
During the podcast, Shaq explained his reasoning, stating, "I was into the Cyber Trucks, but they don’t get enough, I want to say what’s the word I’m looking for, electric mileage? Yeah, charger mileage."
According to O'Neal, the Cybertruck's energy consumption (measured in kWh) did not provide sufficient travel distance, ultimately leading him to seek an alternative.
He directly compared his experience with the Cybertruck with his recently-acquired Cadillac ESCALADE IQ. The celebrity revealed his new automotive preference, stating, “Then I just got one of those IQs system Escalade today, I was in Vegas, I ain’t have to charge up for four days.”
“My cyber truck here if I go downtown to work tonight and come back, my gonna be struggling to get back. Right now it says 267 if I go to Atlanta to the thing and come back, when I come back it ain’t going to be…"

Shaquille O'Neal once liked Teslas

O'Neal, known as "Shaq" or "Big Diesel," expressed his disdain for Tesla vehicles prior to acquiring his first Cybertruck in September 2024. However, he had a notable change of heart towards the ELon Musk-woned company after encountering Effortless Motors, a company that seemingly played a role in his initial Cybertruck purchase.
This newfound appreciation, however, proved fleeting, lasting only for three Cyberbeast acquisitions. The range limitations of the Cybertruck ultimately led to Shaq's departure from the brand, after owning three of Elon Musk's highly anticipated vehicles.
It's worth noting that Effortless Motors was also involved in customising these Tesla vehicles for the former Los Angeles Lakers star.
