Rain to continue for at least next three days: IMD
Guwahati: Monsoon withdrawal from the northeast may occur on schedule, precisely in mid-Oct, but precipitation will persist for at least next three days, according to meteorological officials.
Although the intensity of rainfall in the NE states has diminished over the past 24 hours, the IMD issued a rainfall warning for several northeastern states, including Assam, for the next three days on Tuesday.

According to the warning issued by the IMD’s Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), thunderstorms and lightning are highly probable in isolated areas of Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on Wednesday. The warning also indicated that heavy rain is highly likely in isolated regions of Arunachal, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Manipur on the same day.
The Met office also cautioned that heavy rain is highly probable in isolated areas of Arunachal and Assam on Thursday.
The RMC warning stated that heavy rain is highly likely in isolated areas of Arunachal on Friday.
Current weather conditions indicated that a cyclonic circulation over the northeast and its vicinity at 0.9 km above mean sea level persists. The cyclonic circulation over East Bangladesh and adjoining southeast Assam, extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level, has become less prominent. Nevertheless, Met officials stated that rainfall in the next couple of days cannot be ruled out.
“Last week, the monsoon was fully active over the northeast, which typically occurs before the monsoon withdrawal. As anticipated, the intensity of rainfall has gradually decreased,” said KN Mohan, head of RMC, Guwahati.
