Senior cop to oversee security in Arunachal border districts
Guwahati: The Pahalgam tragedy has set off alarms in Arunachal Pradesh as well. The state is going to keep a hawk eye to stop the cross-border militant threat from Myanmar.
The three eastern districts of Arunachal — Tirap, Changlang, and Longding (TCL) — known as the TCL region, share a border with Myanmar and are used by Myanmar-based militant groups to create disturbances in the northeast. These districts will soon see the deployment of a senior police officer taking command to oversee the sensitive areas in these southeastern districts of Arunachal.
Arunachal CM Pema Khandu on Thursday said his govt will tighten the noose on this sensitive region, which has been one of the worries as far as the sneaking in of militants from Myanmar and other northeastern states is concerned. Speaking to the media, Khandu said, "We don't have home-grown insurgency in TCL, but the effect from the neighbouring country and states also falls in our TCL area. In view of that, we created a range, and the process was initiated to appoint a DIG or IG-level officer there. Very soon, that officer will take command of that range."
The officer will supervise the insurgency-affected Tirap, Changlang, and Longding. Recently, Arunachal's home minister and DGP conducted a security meeting in Tirap.
"From the govt's side, the DGP was instructed to visit TCL again and its police stations for another security review," the CM added.
