Indore: Kanadia police arrested four individuals on Monday night for smuggling liquor. The accused were transporting boxes of liquor in an SUV when they were intercepted by the police. Acting swiftly, officers pursued the vehicle and successfully arrested all suspects. Around 33 boxes of illegal liquor were recovered from the vehicle.
ACP Kundan Mandloi stated that on Monday night, Kanadia police station in-charge Saharsh Yadav received intelligence that a white SUV carrying illegal liquor was travelling toward Kanadia village through the under-construction bypass near Phoenix Mall. Acting promptly, the police team, along with local witnesses, set up check posts.
As the vehicle matching the description approached, the driver, noticing the police, attempted to flee by driving off-road. However, the car got stuck among the stones due to rough terrain, and one of its tyres burst. Taking advantage of the darkness, the driver managed to escape, but four passengers were arrested.
During questioning, the arrested individuals identified themselves as Bunty, son of Ashok Kumar Jaiswal (45); Gaurav, son of Ramkishan Ingde (32); Banwari, son of Jagat Singh Gurjar (27); and Rohit, son of Kishanlal Suryavanshi (31), all residents of Basant Vihar Colony. The vehicle contained 33 cartons of liquor. A case was registered at Kanadia police station under Section 34(2) of the Excise Act. The vehicle was also seized.
Further interrogation is underway to determine the source of the seized liquor and uncover any wider network involved in the smuggling.
