NEW DELHI: A chilling CCTV footage from a house in Jammu's Poonch sector has captured the exact moment a military projectile launched from the Pakistani side crashed into its courtyard, causing significant damage and triggering panic among locals.
The impact, recorded on May 7, shows a sudden, violent explosion as debris fly across the camera’s view.
The video, released by news agency ANI, sparked concerns about civilian safety in the border regions.
As cross-border hostilities intensify, border villages across Jammu and Kashmir — including those in Poonch, Uri, Kupwara, and Karnah — have borne the brunt of heavy shelling. Many residents have reported damaged homes, shops, and infrastructure, with local economies and livelihoods affected by the frequent ceasefire violations.
In Uri district, shopfronts were shattered, and daily life disrupted as shelling from Pakistan targeted civilian areas.
“Those who have means or places would go there. But we are poor. Where would we go? The shelling must stop,” said a local.
On Thursday night, the Pakistan Army launched intense shelling across several sectors — Uri, Kupwara, Tangdhar, and Karnah — in a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement, according to Indian defence sources.
The sources added that eight Pakistani missiles were also launched towards key Jammu regions including Satwari, Samba, RS Pura, and Arnia, but were intercepted mid-air by Indian air defence systems.
Describing the scenario, defence officials compared the visual intensity of the missile barrage to a Hamas-style rocket attack, referencing tactics used during assaults on Israel, with cheap, multiple projectiles launched simultaneously to overwhelm defences.
Intelligence reports suggest that ISI operatives recently held a meeting with Hamas representatives in Pakistan - occupied Jammu and Kashmir, raising alarms over growing transnational terror linkages.
The escalation follows India’s precision strikes on nine terror camps in mainland Pakistan and PoK under ‘Operation Sindoor’, conducted in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack, which left 26 civilians dead last month.
