Kanpur: Six people died and two were injured after a four-wheeler they were travelling in collided with a truck on the Jhansi-Kanpur National Highway No. 27, in Jalaun district during the early hours of Wednesday.
The
accident occurred near the Somai Girthan area on the Jhansi-Kanpur National Highway 27 under Ait police station after the driver dozed off. The car became uncontrollable, went over the divider, and reached the other side.
A truck coming from the Jhansi side crashed into it.
Five people died on the spot, and three others were seriously injured. Chaos ensued on the highway after the accident. Police arrived at the scene and transported the injured to the medical college. The car occupants were travelling from Bahraich to Bengaluru.
Brajesh, his wife Preeti, son Ashutosh, their relatives Sangeeta, Manvi, Nanda, and a three-month-old infant were travelling to Bengaluru on Wednesday morning.

As the car approached Somai Girthan near the Bundelkhand Expressway, Brajesh, who was at the wheel, probably dozed off, causing the car to climb over the divider and reach the other side. A truck coming from the Jhansi side collided with the car.
The collision was so severe that the car was badly damaged. Brajesh, his wife Preeti (40), their son Ashutosh (13), their relative Sangeeta (33), a three-month-old child, and one more person died on the spot. Two other occupants were seriously injured.
The accident caused chaos. After the accident, nearby villagers quickly arrived at the scene and began rescue operations. Additional SP Pradeep Kumar Verma said, "Upon receiving the information, the police also reached the location and sent all the bodies for post-mortem. The injured were referred to Orai Medical College after receiving first aid, from where they were referred to Kanpur."
Traffic on the highway was completely disrupted for about an hour following the accident. "The truck driver fled the scene after the incident. Police have removed the truck and are investigating," said ASP further.
