Maharashtra State Safai Karamchari Commission chairman Satish Dagor for redevpt of Kamgar Chawl in Kolhapur
Kolhapur: During his visit to Kolhapur on Wednesday, Satish Dagor, chairman of the Maharashtra State Safai Karamchari Commission, addressed the pending issues of sanitation workers during meetings at the district collector's office and the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC).
At 2pm, Dagor inspected the "Kamgar Chawl" at Race Course Naka, the residential area for KMC sanitation department workers in Kolhapur city. Following his inspection of the five buildings and after understanding the challenges faced by the residents, Dagor commented on the building's poor condition, emphasizing the urgent need for maintenance and repair.
He also directed the authorities to ensure tap water supply to every house.
He added that in accordance with govt decisions, residents who have paid for their accommodations and those who have resided there for 25 to 30 years should be granted permanent ownership of these houses.
Dagor also instructed that a proposal for the reconstruction of these buildings be immediately submitted to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, assuring that the necessary funds would be provided by the government.
Meanwhile, at the meeting held at the district collectorate, Dagor said that provident fund, gratuity, and leave encashment benefits for the retired cleaning staff should be given on the day of retirement. "A programme should be organised to thank the workers on that day. Retire them honourably, and all the necessary arrangements should be made in advance. Strict action will be taken against officials concerned if any complaints are received in this regard," he said.
He added, "Provide benefits to the sanitation workers as per the recommendation of the Lad-Page Committee as per Government Decision 2024. All organisations need to work in coordination with the administration."
