Ugandan woman involved in supply of MDMA to drug rackets in Kerala arrested from Bengaluru
Kozhikode: Areakode police in Malappuram have taken into custody a Ugandan native woman from Bengaluru, who was allegedly involved in sale of MDMA to interstate drug trafficking rackets.
Nakubure Teopista, 30, was nabbed by a team of officers led by Areakode SHO Sijith from Electronic City in Bengaluru on Wednesday evening. The probe into the source of the 200g MDMA seized by police from Poovathinkal native Arabi Azis, 42, and Mundengara native Shameer Babu, 42, one week ago led police to the Ugandan woman. Poovathikkal native Anas and Kannur Mayyil native Suhail, who was part of the racket, were also arrested earlier. This brings the total number of arrests in this case to five.
Drugs worth Rs 10 lakh were seized from them. Luxury vehicles used to transport MDMA were also confiscated.
Police said the arrested accused had transferred money to the bank account of Teopista. Sijith said that the GPS tracker of the car in which the arrested accused had travelled showed that they had gone to Bengaluru. "We could get the location where they had halted and an eight-member team constituted by Malappuram district police chief R Vishwanath had gone there and were scouring the two sqkm area and we managed to track down the woman," Sijith said.
Azis has over 50 cases related to drug trafficking, robbery, and theft in Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Palakkad. He was previously caught trying to smuggle cannabis in Andhra Pradesh and has been jailed. Additionally, he has been caught under Kaapa twice. Shameer has pending cases related to assault and drugs at Karipur and Nilambur police stations.
The arrested Ugandan woman is a key figure in the gang smuggling drugs into Kerala from Bengaluru. Her detailed questioning has provided clear leads about other Nigerian nationals involved in the interstate drug trafficking ring and efforts to apprehend them have been intensified, police said.
