BJP hits back after Tikait says wrong to suspend Indus Water Treaty
Lucknow: UP BJP chief Bhupendra Chaudhary on Monday flayed Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) president Naresh Tikait for his criticism of India's decision to suspend the Indus Water Treaty following the Pahalgam terror attack.
Dubbing Tikait as a leader who was advocating in favour of terrorists, Chaudhary said that when the entire opposition is with the decision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Tikait's statement was not only unwarranted but also in support of Pakistan.
"While doing politics in the name of farmers, Tikait has now started advocating for terrorists," he said, adding that the "massacre" in Pahalgam exposed the Pakistan supporters sitting in India.
He stated that the Pahalgam attack was a direct attack on the identity and integrity of India. "At such a time, it is not appropriate to advocate for an enemy country. It does not suit Tikait to question the policies and decisions of the govt of India in difficult circumstances," he said.
The state BJP president mentioned that the whole country was hurt by the Pahalgam incident. "Tikait's statement is not only condemnable but also raises questions about his patriotism. He appealed to Tikait to give up narrow politics by keeping the national interest paramount.
