Mandya: Feeding the hungry and cooking food are noble deeds, said deputy commissioner Kumara.
Speaking at the inauguration of a special reorientation workshop organised by the department of backward classes welfare for cooks and cooking assistants on Wednesday, he emphasised that if the cooks in residential schools prepare clean and tasty food for students, it helps the students grow stronger both physically and mentally and allows them to focus happily on their studies.
He added that cooks and their assistants should work diligently and bring honour to the department and the district. The DC reminisced about his college days and recalled the emotional bond he had with the staff during the five years he spent at the BCM (Backward Classes and Minorities) student hostel.
KR Nandini, chief executive officer, zilla panchayat, emphasised that the contribution of cooks is crucial to the all-around development of students. Therefore, all staff should perform their duties effectively, she advised. She also mentioned that the zilla panchayat has already established a district-level helpline for all student hostels and has instructed that cooking and dining areas be properly set up at the front of all hostels.
K Manjula, backward classes welfare officer, welfare officers from all taluks, and others were present.
