Mysuru: JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research's School of Life Sciences associate professor (department of microbiology) Dr K Sumana on Monday highlighted the importance of early detection, diagnosis, mode of infection, symptoms, treatment, and preventive measures to combat tuberculosis.
She was speaking at an awareness programme on tuberculosis on the occasion of World Tuberculosis Day, organised by the department of biotechnology, JSS College for Women (autonomous) Saraswathipuram in the city. She also reiterated the theme of World Tuberculosis Day- ‘Yes! We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver.'
The college principal, Dr Rechanna, said that tuberculosis is an infectious disease. People must get tested immediately if symptoms appear. They must receive appropriate treatment and follow the physician's advice without fail, he said. He also emphasised that preventive measures should be strictly followed to avert the disease from spreading to others. He appealed to join hands with the govt to build a tuberculosis-free country.
