Mysuru: In a strong statement supporting wildlife conservation, Mysuru royal family matriarch Pramoda Devi Wadiyar on Monday emphasised the need to continue the ban night traffic passing through Bandipur Tiger Reserve.
Responding to the ongoing opposition against the proposed lifting of the night ban, she cited concrete evidence showing a significant decline in animal casualties since the ban was implemented.
"Statistics clearly show that the number of animal accidents drastically reduced after vehicles were banned during night hours. This is a very positive development. Keeping that in mind, and in the interest of the environment and wildlife, the night ban on vehicles in Bandipur should definitely continue," she told reporters.
‘Upset about tree felling in Mys'
She also voiced concern over the recent felling of more than 40 mature trees along Hyder Ali Road. Visibly upset, she remarked, "The authorities should have preserved these trees. There is always an alternative. We have brilliant engineers, architects, and planners—surely, they could have come up with a better solution than cutting down over 40 fully grown trees."
