40 prisoners in Buxar to undergo sports training
Buxar: As many as 40 prisoners of Buxar Central Jail would undergo sports training under the ‘Parivartan Kara Se Gaurav Tak' programme, organised by the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL).
The sports training camp was inaugurated on Tuesday in the presence of the IOCL and prison officials.
This innovative approach aims to positively engage prisoners through sports, enhancing their physical and mental well-being while boosting a sense of teamwork and camaraderie.
Jail superintendent, Buxar, Gyanita Gaurav, said on Wednesday that in the first phase five central jails of the state have been selected for the training camps, which includes Buxar Central Jail.
She said arrangements have been made for training in volleyball and table tennis on the jail premises. Jerseys and shoes for the prisoners will be provided by the IOCL. Additionally, trainers will be available to brush the sporting skills of the prisoners.
She added such arrangements are being made in many jails across the country simultaneously.
A total of 1,201 prisoners are lodged in Buxar Central Jail, out of which 515 are convicted.
The jail superintendent said the initiative is part of a larger effort to reform and rehabilitate prisoners, preparing them for a smoother reintegration into society upon release.
IOCL regional manager Kaushik Chatterjee, assistant jail superintendents—Raghavendra Pratap and Priyam Priyadarshi; probation superintendent Nikhil Swaraj, and probation officer Shreya Suman were present during the inauguration of the camp.
