Congress launches QR code system for ticket applications
Patna: In a unique initiative, the state Congress has launched a QR code-based system for ticket distribution to potential candidates for the upcoming assembly elections. The new system allows any interested person to apply for a party ticket without paying a registration fee.By scanning the QR code, users are redirected to a comprehensive application form that seeks detailed information about the applicants, including their current status, involvement in social activities and social media presence – factors that will help assess their public appeal.Candidates must complete and submit the form in full. The party high command will then review each application before making decisions on candidatures. A party official said the Congress war room is equipped with a representative from every district, each with a full digital set-up (computer or laptop), to receive and process applicants' biodata."Bihar is ready for change… If you want to join the wave of change, raise your voice in Congress today! Scan the QR code for a ticket and step towards the future of Bihar," read a social media post by the Bihar Youth Congress on Thursday."The idea allows anyone to apply for party tickets from anywhere without paying any fee. All that one needs is to submit proofs of their social activities and involvement in the Congress-sponsored campaigns such as Har Ghar Jhanda Abhiyan and Jan Aakrosh meetings,"Bihar Congresspresident Rajesh Kumar told TOI on Thursday.Kumar, who claims credit for the concept, said the initiative has been launched to connect with grassroots workers and fairly evaluate how many among them are equipped to contest elections. "But what is more important is if someone applies for a party ticket, that means they are influenced by the party ideology and this discovery can be of much help for the party in the future," he added.A senior party official said the move was also intended to curb the influence of "power brokers" and ensure a level playing field for all aspirants."We had information that one influential person was lobbying for tickets in multiple parties simultaneously, while genuine candidates were being sidelined. This initiative ensures every ticket aspirant gets a fair chance to apply," said a senior Congress functionary on condition of anonymity.
