Woman kills elder son, buries body in backyard
Raipur: In a shocking case that has sent ripples through Chhattisgarh's Sakti district, a woman allegedly murdered her elder son with the help of her younger son and second husband, and buried the body in their backyard (baadi). The horrifying crime was uncovered eight months later, following a tip-off from a relative.
With the murder coming to light eight months after the crime, the case has rocked the region with its cold-blooded nature of the act.
The incident took place in Charpara village under Malkharoda region. Police identified the deceased as Sandeep Bharti, a 25-year-old man whose sudden disappearance had gone unexplained for months.
On Saturday, Sakti SDOP Manish Kunwar, along with local police, arrived at the scene following the lead. With permission from the SDM, the team dug up the location pointed out by a relative. What they found was chilling, Sandeep's skeletal remains, buried deep in the backyard of his family home.
According to investigators, Sarita Bharti, the mother of the deceased, allegedly carried out the murder with the help of her another son Karan Bharti and second husband Ranjit Bharti. Police said the three conspired to kill Sandeep and secretly buried his body to cover up the crime.
All three accused have been taken into custody for questioning, while forensic teams have collected evidence from the site. The remains have been sent for post-mortem and forensic analysis.
"The body was in a decomposed state. We found skeletal remains, which have been sent to the lab. Three people have been detained and the investigation is ongoing," said police.
The crime came to light after a relative from the same village filed a formal complaint, suspecting foul play in Sandeep's disappearance. Acting swiftly, police verified the claims, leading to the excavation and discovery of the body.
While the exact motive behind the murder remains under investigation, police suspect domestic conflict or property dispute may have played a role. Officials say further interrogation of the accused will shed more light on the motive.
Sandeep's biological father had passed away earlier, after which his mother began living with her second husband and two sons. The alleged crime occurred within the same household — a grim reminder of how familial bonds can sometimes turn into fatal betrayals.
