Hyrule nation, get set! The news of the theater release date of the live-action film adaptation of the popular video game series, ‘The Legend of Zelda’ is finally announced. Save your calendars for March 26, 2027, the day when Link will set sail on a fresh journey on the silver screen.
The announcement was made through Nintendo's app Today, about a year and a half after the film was first announced in November of 2023. The movie is co-produced by Sony Pictures and Nintendo, and Nintendo maintains a majority stake in the financing of the film.
Zelda series creator
Shigeru Miyamoto first posted on X that he had been developing The Legend of Zelda project for "many years now" with Avi Arad-san. "I have invited Avi-san to co-produce this film with me, and we have now begun the development of the film officially with Nintendo itself being heavily involved in the production,"
Wes Ball, who directed the ‘The Maze Runner’ trilogy, will helm this much-awaited project. Ball will also be a producer with Joe Hartwick Jr. under their Oddball Entertainment banner.
At present, information on the plot of the film as well as its cast is not available. Voice of Princess Zelda for the game franchise, Patricia Summersett, has also indicated her desire to reprise her role for the film. Whether the filmmakers will follow this path or not is not known.
Miyamoto had mentioned that the work will take a lot of time and he was keenly awaiting people's enthusiasm about it.
