Sydney Sweeney joins upcoming film based on hit game ‘Split Fiction,’ directed by Jon M. Chu

The film will be directed by Jon M. Chu, best known for directing Crazy Rich Asians and the upcoming Wicked musical adaptation. The screenplay is being written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the writing duo behind Deadpool & Wolverine.
Actress Sydney Sweeney is set to appear in a new movie based on the popular video game 'Split Fiction', according to an exclusive report from Variety.
Sweeney, who has gained fame through roles in Euphoria and Anyone But You, will not only star in the project but also serve as an executive producer. At this stage, it’s still unclear whether she will take on the role of Mio or Zoe, the two lead characters from the game.
The movie is being developed by Story Kitchen, a company led by producers Mike Goldberg and Dmitri M. Johnson. They’re partnering with Chu’s own company, Electric Somewhere. The project is currently being pitched to major studios, as several production houses are already showing strong interest.
'Split Fiction', developed by Hazelight Studios and published by Electronic Arts, is a video game that mixes fantasy and science fiction. It tells the story of two authors, Zoe and Mio, who find themselves trapped inside the fantasy worlds they created in their books. The game is known for its unique split-screen format, which allows two players to control each character as they face combat, puzzles, and platform-style challenges using different abilities.
The game was released on March 6 and quickly became a hit among gamers and critics. Hazelight Studios announced that over two million copies were sold within the first week of release, and the number continues to grow. The story and visuals of the game impressed many, leading to a quick move by Hollywood to adapt it for the big screen.
Story Kitchen has been making a name for itself in turning video games into movies and series. The company previously worked on the Sonic the Hedgehog movies and a Tomb Raider animated series for Netflix. They are also developing films based on It Takes Two (another game made by Hazelight), Streets of Rage, and ToeJam & Earl.
The idea of a Split Fiction movie first gained attention in March during the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco. Variety was the first to report on the film being in early talks and attracting interest from several major studios.
