War movies to make a comeback!

Bin Laden death sparks war flick boom in 2012
War movies to make a comeback!
The killing of Osama bin Laden by US forces has generated enough interest to revive an almost-dead film genre in Hollywood: war movies.
The Oscar-winning Hurt Locker stirred up opinionated discussions worldwide when it released. While a few movie critics termed the film ‘propagandist fare’, the fact remains that it went on to do reasonably well across territories for a flick made on a modest budget.

In India, however, Kathryn Bigelow’s work on the collateral damage wrought by war, found few takers.
Nevertheless, for all of 2012, the US is going to be bombarded by a barrage of such films. Key among these, is Mike ‘Mouse’ McCoy and Scott Waugh’s Act of Valor, which stars actual Navy SEALs and started out as a recruitment video for the US military’s Naval Special Warfare Command. The film is due for release February 17, 2012 and provides an unseen glimpse into an elite special force. Finding distribution for the film, initially, was difficult but bin Laden’s death changed that.
While this film doesn’t deal with the killing of the dreaded terrorist, Kat Bigelow’s film Navy Seal Team 6 has been written to incorporate the hunt for and the subsequent execution of Laden. The film is expected to release late-2012 in the US. We asked a source from the production house if there was also a date set for an Indian release. We were told that they “only hold domestic (US) rights for the film”. Also, since “international rights haven’t been sold yet, an Indian release date cannot be made available at this point.”
