Will Smith, ‘The Pursuit of Happyness’ actor gets the honour of having a street named after him in his hometown, Philadelphia. The portion of 2000 N. 59th Street is now to be called as the ‘Will Smith Way.’ The actor appeared in his hometown with Mayor Cherelle L. Parker and the other city officials as they posed with the name card.
In an Instagram post shared by Will Smith, he shared a few glimpses of the event, captioning, “Philly, I am yours. This is the honor of a lifetime. 💚” and many extended their heartfelt congratulations in the comment section. The glimpses included Smith, Parker, and other city officials posing with all smiles.
In the post, the actor shared a video as well where he admirably expressed, “Hey, Philly. I love you. I am yours, you are mine. I will see you on the Fourth of July.”
Mayor Cherelle L. Parker shared a heartfelt post as well, where she expressed her gratitude for Will. Furthermore, the official elaborated how proud she was of the actor. “Will Smith’s journey has been nothing short of inspiring. From his roots of being born and raised in West Philadelphia, to his rise as a global superstar, he’s shown us all what it means to dream big and work hard,” she wrote in the caption. “We are incredibly proud to call @willsmith one of our own. His achievements are a reflection of the strength, resilience, and brilliance of Philadelphia’s people,” she added.
Additionally, she shared the details of the street and wished the change would uplift the city: “As we rename 2000 N. 59th Street in Will’s honor today, let’s celebrate everything he represents—creativity, kindness, and the power of community. May this naming serve as a reminder for all of us to spread joy and lift each other up in our great City of Philadelphia.”
