Srijit Mukherjee reveals he wanted to make a web series on Mrinal Sen, gives update on biopic

On his birth anniversary on May 14, the doyen of Bengali cinema, Mrinal Sen’s fans have some welcome news: the biopic on Mrinal Sen being directed by Srijit Mukherjee is almost complete.
Giving out this information Srijit says, “The biopic titled Padatik is now in post-production and I hope to release it very soon. Am I content with what I have put into film? No fully comprehensive biopic on a personality as profound as Mrinal da is possible in one feature film.I feel a webseries would have done much more justice to him. But I am happy with the film. Chanchal Chowdhury has done justice to Mrinal da’s character. He is an amazing actor. Their resemblance is uncanny.”

Mrinal Sen who started his career as a director in Raat Bhore in 1955 went on to become one of India’s most recognized directors with Bhuvan Shome, Ek Adhuri Kahani, Mrigaya, Aakaler Sandhane and Khandhar, among others.
Padatik, the title of Mrinal Sen’s biopic, comes from Sen’s 1973 film of the same name.
