One of the senior-most theatre artistes in India, Uttara Baokar was recently in Bhopal to take a class at the prestigious MP School of Drama.

One of the senior-most theatre artistes in India, Uttara Baokar was recently in Bhopal to take a class at the prestigious MP School of Drama. A recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for acting, she is well known for her portrayal of Umrao in the movie Umrao Jaan, and for her memorable performances in serials like Tamas and Udaan.
Last seen in the recent Hindi film Ekkees Toppon Ki Salaami, the senior artist conducted an interactive session with the students at the drama school.

Speaking to us afterwards about the city, she said, “Bhopal is a culturally-rich city and is full of talent. You can easily say that this city is the cultural capital of India.”
As far as her film projects go, she tells us, “Mostly I’m now offered the roles of a mother. That’s quite disappointing. When at 72, Mr Bachchan can do such amazing roles, then why can’t we?”
