Dattanna was born in 1942 and completed his education in 1978 from the Indian Institute of Science. Later, he worked in Indian Air Force for 21 years and retired as Wing Commander. He also worked at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). He made his acting debut in 1988 with the movie ‘Aasphota’ and won the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Supporting Actor.
It is said that Dattanna did not marry because of his commitment towards the job. Actress Haripriya and Dattanna have acted together in the movie ‘Dattanna’. She revealed the conversion with him on the set in one of her blogs. She once wrote that when she had asked Dattana why he had never married, the actor had replied, ‘When I was working at HAL before I started acting in movies, my work pressure was a little too much. I had to roam around on a work basis, and there were many transfers. So, I used to eat in canteens and manage, and there was no time to settle. I used to roam around, and never gave a thought to marriage. My opinion on marriage is different. My profession never supported marriage’.
Dattanna who has acted in plays during his college days, has performed in more than 200 movies in his career. He has appeared in many movies like ‘Santha Shishunala Sharifa’, ‘Mysore Mallige’, ‘Mysore Mallige’, ‘Kraurya’, ‘Premier Padmini’, ‘Neer Dose’ among other superhits.
