Kannada film industry has been producing some unique movies which have been appreciated by other industries as well. There are Kannada films being dubbed into other languages and the different genres being experimented with seems to be all working well for the industry. This week, Friday, February 21 will see many Kannada movies being released on the occasion of Mahashivratri.
Audiences can watch out for ‘Shivaji Surathkal’, ‘Popcorn Monkey Tiger’, ‘Aadyaa’, ‘Mounam’ and ‘Seethamma Bandalu Sirimallige Thottu’ that are set to hit the theatres this week.
Shivaji Surathkal
Sandalwood star Ramesh Aravind’s 101st movie ‘Shivaji Surathkal’ is all set to release on February 21. It's been two years since Ramesh Aravind's film has released. For the first time in his career, Ramesh Aravind will be seen playing a detective in the film which is directed by Akash Srivatsa. Actresses Radhika Chetan and Aarohi Narayan will be playing the female leads in the movie which has received a U/A certificate from the censor board. The film is produced by Reka KN and Anup Gowda and music director Judah Sandhy is composing music for the movie.
Popcorn Monkey Tiger
The long-awaited movie 'Popcorn Monkey Tiger' directed by Duniya Suri starring Dolly, will be released on February 21, on the occasion of Mahashivratri. Dhananjaya will be playing different roles in the movie, which is produced by Sudhir K M under Studio 18. Suri and Amri (Amritha K Bhargav) have written the story for this movie. Dhananjaya and Nivedita are playing the lead roles in this one and the film also has cast like Rekha, Sudhi, Naveen,
Gowtham, Allu, Nikhil, Nagraj, Sapthami Gowda, Amrutha Iyengar, Monisha Nadgir and others in major roles.
‘Aadyaa’ is a mystery thriller which is a remake of the
Telugu film ‘Kshanam’, and will star
Chiranjeevi Sarja and
Sruthi Hariharan in the lead roles. The film is directed by KM Chaitanya and was launched in 2018. Due to many conflicts, the movie’s release date got postponed and now, it is all set for release on the occasion of Mahashivratri festival. Sruthi Hariharan has played the role of a police officer in the plot. This movie is jointly produced by T.G. Vishwaprasad and Raghunath.S, and V. Sridhar has composed the music.
‘Mounam’ is a psychological thriller starring Balaji Sharma, Mayuri Kyatari, and Avanish in the lead roles, and is directed by Raaj Pandith. Actor Balaji Sharma, who is a small screen actor, is making his big-screen debut with this movie. The film deals with the emotions of Balaji’s character in the movie and how those emotions gets him in trouble. The movie is produced by Srihari and Aravrishik has composed the music.
Seethamma Bandalu Sirimallige Thottu

‘Seethamma Bandalu Sirimallige Thottu’ is directed by Ashok Kadaba and features Samhita Vinya and Nandeesh Kumar in lead roles. The movie is about a reporter who travels to a village for his new story and lands in trouble. The plot then shows how the reporter escapes the troubles. Music director Karthik Venkatesh is composing music for this movie.
