According to PTI, Ranya penned a letter to the Additional Director General of DRI, detailing shocking accusations. She alleged that she was physically assaulted and slapped multiple times by officials. Furthermore, she asserted that despite the physical abuse, she refused to sign certain documents that were prepared for her. Ranya elaborated that these documents included 50-60 typed pages along with around 40 blank sheets. She expressed her distress over being denied an opportunity to defend herself.
“From the moment of my apprehension until I was presented in court, I was physically assaulted and slapped 10-15 times by officers whom I can identify. Despite repeated assaults, I refused to sign the statements they prepared. Under immense pressure and physical assault, I was forced to sign 50-60 typed pages and around 40 blank white pages prepared by the DRI officers,” she reportedly stated.
Ranya alleged that she was threatened with exposure regarding her father's identity if she refused to comply. According to Ranya, her father, who is a senior police officer, had no involvement in the smuggling case. She also stated that she was deprived of food and sleep for over 24 hours. Additionally, she contended that she was not in possession of any gold and that certain individuals from Delhi, who posed as officials, framed her to protect someone else.
On March 7, during her first official statement to the DRI, Ranya reportedly admitted to gold smuggling and acknowledged that 17 gold bars had been recovered from her. Days later, on March 10, while appearing in court, she broke down and accused DRI officials of verbally abusing her. At the time, she clarified that she had not been physically assaulted but described the verbal mistreatment as a source of severe mental distress.
Ranya Rao ventured into the entertainment industry with the 2014 film ‘Maanikya,’ and she later starred in movies like ‘Wagah’ and ‘Pataki.’
