When Prithviraj Sukumaran revealed the true meaning of ‘Empuraan’

As the much-anticipated ‘L2: Empuraan’ gears up for its grand release on March 27, you may be wondering about the meaning behind its powerful title.

In an earlier interview with Movie Man, director-actor Prithviraj Sukumaran explained that 'Empuraan' means “more than a king and less than a god.” He elaborated that it signifies a person of immense power or authority, standing equal to an 'Overlord'.

Prithviraj also confirmed that ‘Empuraan’ would serve as both a prequel and sequel to Lucifer, further expanding its universe. Interestingly, the film’s official announcement was made at Mohanlal’s residence in Kochi, which was also designated as the central hub for all Empuraan-related work.
Meanwhile, the buzz surrounding ‘Empuraan’ is at an all-time high. The film’s pre-bookings in India officially opened on March 21, as announced by Prithviraj on social media. With just a few days to go for release, trade experts predict a surge in domestic advance bookings. Given the film’s stellar pre-release business, industry insiders expect a record-breaking box office opening.

At the IMAX trailer launch event in Mumbai, Prithviraj reminisced about his early days in the industry. He revealed that nearly 20 years ago, he had once stated in an interview that if he ever directed a film, he would want Mohanlal and Manju Warrier as his leads. “I had no intention of directing back then,” he admitted, yet his words turned prophetic with Lucifer.
Mohanlal, on the other hand, conveyed his heartfelt gratitude to Prithviraj for making Empuraan a reality. “Empuraan is not just a movie; it is our blood and sweat. The film will speak to you,” he stated, adding, “There is magic in Empuraan. Let the Almighty decide the rest.” He also confirmed that he would watch the film's first show with audiences in Kochi on March 27.
