‘Aaranya Kaandam’: Venkat Prabhu releases the censored scenes of the film

Regarded as one of the finest films in the history of Tamil cinema, filmmaker Thiagarajan Kumararaja’s neo-noir gangster drama ‘Aaranya Kaandam’ opened to rave reviews when it released back in 2010. In fact, the film created a huge controversy after the Censor Board raised objections to many scenes, thereby recommending close to 52 cuts. Over the years, ‘Aaranya Kaandam’ achieved a cult status among fans and also won two National Awards for Best Editing and Best First Film Director.
‘Aaranya Kaandam’ was later awarded an ‘A’ certificate and was screened at several international film festivals.Despite the high critical acclaim, the fact remains that the film failed to mint money at the box-office. After eight years since its release, the makers have now released the censored scenes from the film, which was unveiled by director Venkat Prabhu.
Taking it to Twitter, an elated Venkat Prabhu wrote, “Proud in releasing the national award-winning #aranyakaandam censor cuts exclusive from #captialfilmworks.” The video shows a couple of raw and brutal scenes that weren’t part of the film.
On the work front, Thiagarajan Kumararaja is wrapping up his forthcoming release ‘Super Deluxe’ featuring a host of actors like Vijay Sethupathi, Fahadh Faasil and Samantha Akkineni in lead roles. The film is expected to release this year.
