The buzz on who will be playing the female lead in
Madonne Ashwin's 'Maaveeran' starring Sivakarthijeyan came to end as
Aditi Shankar clinched the part. While there was a strong buzz that Bollywood actress Kiara Advani was doing the film, it is now officially announced that Aditi was roped in for the project.
Speaking to us, producer
Arun Viswa says, "We never spoke to any other actress or considered Kiara for the role.
These were only social media rumours. The team was clear on choosing the actress once the script work was done and getting someone who would suit the character best. Director and his team felt that Aditi would be apt for the film. In fact, she was our first choice."
Interestingly, Arun reveals that she auditioned for the film. "Of course, the team saw glimpses of her acting in the song, 'Kanja Poovu Kannala', from 'Viruman', and her performance was liked by everyone. She has a certain energy, a girl-next-door appeal, and speaks Tamil. All this was required for the role. A common friend who works with the 'Viruman' team casually mentioned about her dedication to the craft, which was a plus point. But of course, the director and his team also wanted to do an audition and look test. Generally, after one film, actors rarely do an audition. But she was keen on giving one, which was liked by the team," says Arun.
Though details regarding her role can't be revealed now, Arun says that her character is integral to the script. "It is definitely not a usual role. The film is set in and around Chennai, and so, the looks of these characters will be in alignment with that," he says. While the shooting of the film has begun in Chennai, Aditi will join the team next week. "We are planning to shoot the film in two-three schedules, on a single stretch, with small breaks in between. Other cast members will be announced soon," he says.
