‘Gang Leader is a genre-bending drama that’ll leave you in splits’

Touted to be a ‘comic revenge drama’, director Vikram Kumar’s Gang Leader does seem to have all the makings of a genre bender. “When was the last time you saw a revenge drama revolving around a gang of five women? We assure you that you’d have never seen anything like this,” proclaim producers Naveen Yerneni, Ravi Shankar Yalamanchili and Mohan Cherukuri in unison.

Nani, who plays the leader of the motley crew of women, nods in agreement. “Mind you, the five women are unrelated to each other. Lakshmi garu plays the doyen of the gang, Saraswathi, an octogenarian ammamma (grandmother). How she joins hands with 50-year-old mommy, Varalakshmi (Saranya Povannan), the 22-year-old Priya (Priyanka Arul Mohan), a teenaged high-schooler Swathi (Shriya Reddy) and seven-year-old Chinnu, (Pranya P Rao) to settle scores with a notorious car racer is what the film is all about,” explains Nani, who plays an underdog writer who helps the ladies plot their revenge.
Talking about his character, Nani says, “I play a writer who assumes the pseudonym Pencil Parthasarathy. He is a guy who specialises in ripping off the plots from famous English films for his novels. How he leads the ladies in their quest for vendetta against a powerful antagonist will leave you in splits.”
Interestingly, RX 100 star Kartikeya makes his debut as an antagonist in the movie.
“Karthikeya’s performance will be a revelation to the audience. It’s an entertainer that will have the audience hooked from the first frame to last,” say the producers, signing off.
Produced by Naveen Yerneni, Ravi Shankar Yalamanchili and Mohan Cherukuri (CVM) under Mythri Movie Makers, Gang Leader is releasing tomorrow.
