A recent cyberattack on private jet company NetJets Inc. has exposed a rare look into the personal travel preferences of Elon Musk, the billionaire CEO of Tesla and SpaceX. Among the documents compromised was a service memo detailing Musk’s in-flight expectations—a glimpse into the daily operations that cater to one of the world’s richest and most influential individuals.
The internal memo, as per Bloomberg News, describes Musk as a “nice, laid-back” client, while cautioning flight crew not to engage in small talk unless he initiates it. “He is not interested in conserving fuel,” the memo states, adding that he “wants to fly as quickly and as direct” as possible.
The document was obtained by hackers who infiltrated NetJets’ systems in a breach disclosed earlier this week. The company, owned by Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway, confirmed that “limited” data from “a very small number of owners” had been compromised. As per reports, the attacker used a phishing email to steal an employee’s credentials, then accessed additional files internally.

While NetJets has not confirmed the authenticity of the Musk-specific memo, three people with knowledge of the company’s operations told Bloomberg that flight attendants are routinely given “passenger service plans” to tailor each flight to a client’s preferences.
Musk, who previously suspended an account from his platform X (formerly Twitter) for tracking his jet activity, is typically private about his personal life. However, the memo underscores that in some ways, he shares common travel frustrations: “He does not enjoy unexpected WiFi outages,” it reads. “He likes to take a nap, even on day trips.”

Dated November 2024, the memo also notes Musk prefers the cabin temperature set to 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Lights should be kept dim, and passenger air vents turned off because “he does not like the noise” they make.
Crew members are also advised not to offer technical assistance: “Mr. Musk considers himself self-sufficient and does not need help with technology — if he does, he will ask.”
The revelation offers one of the clearest behind-the-scenes views into how one of the world’s most enigmatic executives travels—even as cybersecurity threats continue to target high-profile clients and the companies that serve them.
