NEW DELHI: The Border Security Force (BSF) said on Friday that it had successfully foiled a major infiltration attempt along the India-Pakistan International Border in the Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir, killing at least seven terrorists in the process. The attempted breach occurred around 11pm on the intervening night of May 8 and 9, and was backed by cross-border firing from the Pakistan Rangers' Dhandhar post.According to the BSF, the infiltration attempt was detected by its surveillance grid, which spotted a large group of terrorists trying to cross into Indian territory under the cover of darkness. In response, troops launched a swift counter-operation, neutralising the infiltrators and inflicting heavy damage on the Pakistani post believed to have supported the assault. The BSF also released thermal imaging footage showing the destruction of the Dhandhar post. The force remains on high alert amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which left 26 civilians dead. India responded to that attack with “Operation Sindoor” on May 7, launching precision missile strikes on nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). Indian officials said the strikes targeted infrastructure belonging to groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed.
