NEW DELHI: The International Court of Justice (
ICJ) will on Thursday pronounce its verdict on the Kulbhushan Jadhav case, government sources confirmed here. The verdict is likely to come around 3.30 pm IST.
India is expecting ICJ to grant the provisional measures it has sought, including a stay on the death sentence awarded to Jadhav by a Pakistani military court.
During the hearing, India had expressed the fear that Jadhav might be executed even while the hearing at ICJ was on. While India has argued that its case is solely based around the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations (VCCR) optional protocol, which accords ICJ primacy in any dispute arising out of interpretation of VCCR,
Pakistan wants ICJ to acknowledge its argument that the bilateral agreement on consular access take precedence over VCCR.
