Wrexham off to Vegas again: Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney treat players to lavish all-paid party after club's 3rd straight promotion

Wrexham secured a historic third consecutive promotion with a 3–0 win over Charlton, earning a spot in the Championship. To celebrate, the squad jetted off to Las Vegas for another lavish, all-expenses-paid party funded by owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. Reynolds called the season “remarkable” and joked the team’s rise is addictive, like “a gigantic pile of cocaine.”

Wrexham’s incredible rise continues as the club secures its third consecutive promotion, advancing to the Championship for the 2025 season. The Welsh side, backed by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, has gone from being outside the Football League to the second division in just four seasons. To celebrate this historic achievement, the players are heading back to Las Vegas, marking their third consecutive year of celebrations in the party capital.

A Hollywood fairytale come true

Wrexham's journey from non-league football to the brink of the Championship is nothing short of a fairytale, and the latest chapter was written at Racecourse Ground last week. The club finished second in League One with an impressive 92 points, behind the leaders Birmingham City who had a staggering 111 points. A 3-0 victory over Charlton at home sealed their promotion and ensured that the team would advance to the Championship for the 2025 season. Co-owners Reynolds and McElhenney were on hand to witness the historic moment, celebrating alongside the team. The couple, including actress Blake Lively, were visibly thrilled, with both leaping to their feet as they witnessed their team’s meteoric rise.“Moving from outside the Football League to the second division in just four seasons is a monumental achievement,” Reynolds shared in an interview after the game. “We couldn’t be prouder of this group,” he told the Daily Star.

The Las Vegas tradition continues

With the club’s third promotion secured, it’s time to party, and Las Vegas is the venue of choice. This marks the third consecutive year that Wrexham's players will travel to the city to celebrate their success. For the past two seasons, Reynolds and McElhenney have footed the bill for the extravagant celebrations, and it’s clear that this year’s event will be no different.
The players boarded a private jet on Thursday morning, with many of them sharing photos of the journey to Sin City on social media. Among those sharing the moment were Sam Smith, Ollie Palmer, Ryan Barnett, and James McClean. McClean posted a cheeky caption alongside a group photo: “Vegas again, ole ole ole,” referencing their third consecutive promotion. He added, “(Be s***e to be in the playoffs right now),” poking fun at their rivals. The plane, customized for the occasion, featured headrests emblazoned with a picture of the squad and the words “We’re going up!” – a fitting tribute to their promotion.

The lavish parties

As expected, Wrexham’s Las Vegas celebrations will be nothing short of lavish. The 2023 and 2024 parties set a high bar, with the team treated like royalty wherever they went. In 2023, the celebrations kicked off with a night at the famous Hakkasan nightclub. The next day, the players enjoyed a poolside party at the Wet Republic Ultra Pool at the MGM Grand. Dinner at Spago, located in the Bellagio, followed, where the team was greeted by an ice sculpture of the Wrexham badge and indulged in an extravagant seafood tower.According to Wrexham goalkeeper Ben Foster, the club’s 2023 promotion party in Las Vegas cost Reynolds and McElhenney £500,000. Speaking on The Fellas Podcast, Foster recalled, “The way that Rob McElhenney and Ryan put it on for us, laid it on for us, was just like nothing I’ve ever seen. We got there and it was just straight to the shower, straight get changed, go to Hakkasan for dinner and then we’re going to Hakkasan nightclub straight afterwards. All expenses paid.”He continued, “Got to be £500,000, had to be at least half a million genuinely, it had to be because they just looked after everything,” he told The Fellas Podcast.Last year, the celebrations were even grander, with Reynolds humorously suggesting in an Instagram story that the team’s next party would be a “five-day meditation retreat in the Faroe Islands.” Clearly, the Las Vegas allure proved too strong to resist, as the team returned to TAO Beach Dayclub, a spot where cabanas can range from $1,500 to $6,000 and bottles of champagne can go as high as $1,600 for a bottle of Armand de Brignac’s 'Ace of Spades' owned by Jay-Z.

Ryan Reynolds on the emotional highs of Wrexham’s success

In the midst of the festivities, Reynolds opened up about the emotional rollercoaster of watching his team’s success. “I have not required an adult diaper yet,” he joked, referring to the intense anxiety he felt watching the team’s tight matches. “I think I’ve watched Sam Smith’s martial arts/judo kick maybe 50, 60, 70 times,” he said with a laugh. “It’s my version of a gigantic pile of cocaine. I’m just sitting there, watching that over and over and over again and enjoying every second of it,” he told the Daily Star.Reynolds, who has poured his heart into the club, admitted that his experience at Wrexham has been life-changing. “I’m glad it happened when we are at the age I’m at,” he said. “Because I don’t think this is something I would have been able to handle any younger. I wouldn’t change anything about my time here. I don’t know how you get bored with something like this,” he told the Daily Star.
