The current Padres’ right-hand pitcher, Michael King, might enter free agency if the team does not retain him. However, the main concern here is not whether the Padres will retain the player or not. In fact, the speculation here is whether Michael King will return to his former team, the New York Yankees, after becoming a free agent. Will he? Well, we have the juicy details here.

Possibilities of Michael King returning to the Yankees

King left the New York Yankees after the 2023 season and joined the San Diego Padres for a one-season contract, which has now extended till the end of 2025.After the 2025 season, chances are that King might enter free agency. But will he join the Yankees after that? When asked about the chances of him joining the Yankees, King replied,"I mean, of course, once you get to free agency, that's what I'll start thinking about..I've got to focus on winning today...hopefully by the end of it I can have all 30 teams calling me."
In fact, the Yankees skipper, Aaron Boone, also praised King on his performance. "He’s ascended to one of the top starters in the game.”
Though the Yankees were not quite willing to send King to the Padres, they did want Soto to join their team. The Padres had the upper hand here, and they made the final call. So, when Michael King departed for the Padres in 2023, Soto and Grisham entered the Yankees. Was it a good trade?
