Stephen Curry’s 31-point showdown propelled Golden States Warriors to victory over the Houston Rockets
Stephen Curry once again proved why he's the heart of this team. In nearly 40 minutes of action, the superstar guard delivered a game-high 31 points, shooting an impressive 12-of-19 from the field. Curry was locked in from beyond the arc, hitting 5 of his 9 three-point attempts. He also added 6 rebounds and 3 assists. With a perfect 2-of-2 from the free throw line, Curry’s efficiency stood out in a game where his teammates struggled to keep pace. Jimmy Butler also had an incredible night, scoring 25 points with 7 rebounds and 6 assists. The Curry-Butler duo was the highlight of the night.
Brandin Podziemski followed up with 14 points, knocking down 3 triples on 8 attempts. He pulled in 8 rebounds and dished out 5 assists, showing flashes of maturity in his decision-making. Moses Moody added 7 points in just under 28 minutes, and Gary Payton II chipped in with 7 as well, though the team’s bench production remained limited.
Gui Santos, who played just over six minutes but made the most of it. He went 1-of-1 from the field, hit a three, and knocked down both of his free throws, finishing with 5 points. The rest of the bench combined for just 2 points from Buddy Hield and none from Quinton Post, Kevon Looney, or others. Notably, several players including Jonathan Kuminga, Kevin Knox II, and Trayce Jackson-Davis did not see any court time.
As a team, they shot 47.4% from the field and 37.5% from three-point range. But despite Curry’s elite performance, turnovers (18 total) and a minus-10 contribution from the bench hurt their momentum. The team finished with 95 points overall, and while Curry lit up the scoreboard, the rest of the roster couldn’t match his firepower.
For the Houston Rockets, Alperen Sengun scored a team-high 26 points.
Stephen Curry continues to leave his mark on NBA history, and Game 1 against the Houston Rockets proved it. More importantly, Curry etched his name in the record books by passing Scottie Pippen for 17th on the NBA’s all-time playoff field goals made list, now sitting at 1,336 and counting.
