Bella Ramsey, who gained widespread attention for playing Ellie in HBO’s hit show 'The Last of Us', recently spoke about a question she keeps getting during interviews — and how she’s growing tired of it.
During a chat with iHeart Radio, Ramsey mentioned that while promoting the second season of 'The Last of Us', one particular question has been asked so many times that she now finds it irritating. She explained that during her recent three-week press tour, she was constantly asked how she prepared to play an older version of Ellie, the character she portrays in the series.
The question often points out that Ellie was 14 years old in Season 1, while in Season 2, the character is 19. Because of that, journalists have repeatedly asked how Ramsey adapted to show Ellie’s growth over the five-year time jump.
Ramsey admitted that she doesn’t have a unique answer to give anymore. She felt there wasn’t much to say because both she and her character had simply grown up over time. The actress remarked, “I’ve got nothing to say to you,” when describing her reaction to the repeated question. She added, half-jokingly, that she expects to hear the same thing every day for the next few weeks. Although she meant no offense to those asking, she honestly said that she’s getting “a little bit sick of it.”
Despite her frustration with the question, Ramsey had actually trained hard for the new season. According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, she had spent several months preparing for her role. Her training included jiu-jitsu, boxing, and weightlifting — all of which helped her convincingly portray the older, tougher version of Ellie.
Fans have been eagerly waiting to see Ramsey reunite onscreen with her co-star
Pedro Pascal. Their emotional performances in the first season, which aired in 2023, left a lasting impact on viewers.
The second season of 'The Last of Us' officially premiered on April 13, 2025. New episodes are scheduled to be released every Sunday until May 25. In addition to Ramsey and Pascal, the new season features other actors like Isabela Merced, Gabriel Luna, Ariela Barer, and Rutina Wesley.
For those wanting to catch up or revisit the series, both Season 1 and Season 2 are available to stream on MAX.
