Hailee Steinfeld is currently putting wedding planning on hold as she promotes her upcoming film Sinners. The actress is engaged to NFL star Josh Allen, but with the film’s release just around the corner, her schedule has been packed with press events and premieres.
Hailey Steinfeld’s role leads to personal discovery
Directed by
Ryan Coogler, Sinners is set in the 1930s American South and features Hailey Steinfeld as Mary, a biracial woman who becomes a vampire. The role pushed her to explore her own family history and identity. The film also stars
Michael B. Jordan, who plays twin brothers, and praised Steinfeld for her powerful performance.
In a recent interview with Extra, Hailee Steinfeld shared that wedding planning has taken a backseat for now. “We’re in the middle of a press tour,” she said. “We’ve got a movie coming out in, what, 12 days? Six? Something like that. We’re focused on that.” Her full attention is currently on promoting Sinners, which is set to hit theaters soon.
Hailee Steinfeld’s role in Sinners turned out to be more than just a performance,it became a deeply personal journey. “I would say, I learned a lot about my myself through Mary, and even more about my family history,” the star said.
She added: “I had so many amazing conversations with my mom about her family, and about her dad, my grandfather who is half black — who I wish every day, because of this movie, and for so many other reasons — I could call and ask him all the questions… I would absolutely do that if he were here.”
Director Ryan Coogler took a bold step by casting Michael B. Jordan as twin brothers, Smoke and Stack, in Sinners. Reflecting on the first time he saw both characters come to life on screen, Jordan couldn’t hide his excitement. “I was hyped! I actually yelled out a loud, ‘Whoo!’” he said, clearly proud of the moment.
“It was pretty challenging, but a lot of fun as well, getting the chance to develop… twin brothers, their dynamic and the work we did to develop how they walk and how they talk and their mannerisms… it was challenging, but it was good,” the star added. “You’ll come out with thoughts, lessons, questions, answers that have nothing to do with vampires… there’s a whole lot of heart,” she said.
Despite the wedding delay, Hailee and Josh are still excited about their future together and even mentioned wanting to start a family in the next few years. Allen has been showing full support, attending the film’s premiere and afterparty with her in New York City earlier this month.
