The former Chicago Bears quarterback, Justin Fields, was recently asked about the team drafting a quarterback later this month for the upcoming NFL draft.
Addressing the reporters over a video call on Wednesday, April 9, Fields said, “Yeah, I’m a big believer in everything happens for a reason.” This was his first media address after signing the contract deal with the New York Jets last month.
What is the hue and cry between Mike Tomlin and Justin Fields? Where is it going wrong?
There seems to be an uncomfortable gesture between Justin Fields and Coach Mike Tomlin. During the 2021 Draft, Fields was the No.11 overall pick by the Chicago team, whereas the Jets picked Zach Wilson at No.2.
As Russell Wilson was dealing with an injury, that paved the way for Fields to start the season as Pittsburgh’s starter. But Fields' luck never favored under Mike Tomlin. Mike always considered Wilson to be a better and healthier veteran.
When Fields was sent to the bench, describing the situation, he said, “I was put in a place where I wasn’t, really, never in a place in my entire life.”
“So I think I tried to have a different perspective on it. Of course, Russ has been in the league for a long time, so I learned a lot of great things from him and got to learn a different perspective of things. ... So it was, of course, different for me in a space where I wasn’t necessarily comfortable,” he added.
Recently, when asked by a reporter if there was any possible chance that the Jets to draft a quarterback this year, Fields answered with a strange reply, “I don’t really like to answer rhetorical questions … I’m willing to teach, but I’m not really interested in rhetorical questions.”
Justin Fields' career has had a rough path. He was the 11th pick by the Chicago Bears in the 2021 NFL Draft. He had a brief stint with the Pittsburgh Steelers and then joined the New York Jets as a free agent.
