What started as a private legal battle between actress
Blake Lively and actor-director
Justin Baldoni is now expanding to involve some of Hollywood’s biggest names — including
Taylor Swift and her boyfriend, NFL star
Travis Kelce. Despite Swift’s efforts to remain uninvolved, new legal developments suggest that may no longer be an option.
Blake Lively’s harassment lawsuit could pull Taylor Swift into the courtroom
The controversy began when Blake Lively filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against Justin Baldoni, her co-star and director in the upcoming film It Ends With Us.
While the lawsuit centers on Lively’s experience during the movie’s production, recent reports allege that Taylor Swift’s name was invoked during a dispute between Lively and Baldoni.
According to PEOPLE, Baldoni’s legal team is considering issuing subpoenas to a number of high-profile individuals, including Swift. This has raised concerns about the relevance of such actions. Lively’s attorney, Mike Gottlieb, questioned the strategy, stating:“It’s completely unclear what claims or defenses in the case any of these celebrities… have any relevance to at all.”
He added, “You can't just go around subpoenaing people because they're famous and you think it will generate a bunch of headlines. And the federal courts don't tolerate that kind of behavior.” The legal back-and-forth now risks dragging Swift into a highly publicized case she has made a clear effort to avoid.
Travis Kelce reportedly distancing himself from Ryan Reynolds amid growing tension
The scandal's ripple effects are also reaching Swift’s partner, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. Reports suggest Kelce may be pulling away from a previously friendly relationship with Ryan Reynolds, Lively’s husband, possibly due to the tension stemming from the lawsuit and the media frenzy surrounding it.
Although neither Swift nor Kelce has commented publicly on the situation, sources say Swift is doing everything she can to stay out of the legal drama. Still, if a subpoena is issued, she may be legally obligated to testify, regardless of her personal wishes.
Until now, Swift and Kelce have been enjoying a relatively quiet offseason following the Chiefs’ Super Bowl win. But with this legal firestorm escalating, their peaceful reprieve may soon be over.
