Canadian ice hockey defenseman Tyson Barrie is available for other NHL teams as the Calgary Flames waived him

The Calgary Flames waived veteran defenseman Tyson Barrie after a disappointing season with only 1 goal and 2 assists in 13 games. Replacing him, the team called up younger talents Ilya Solovyov and Yan Kuznetsov from the AHL. Head coach Ryan Huska acknowledges Barrie's positive contributions but supports investing in future prospects.

33-year-old ice hockey defenseman Tyson Barrie played only 13 games in the NHL this season, leaving 44 games unattended for the Calgary Flames. Barrie could only accumulate 1 goal and 2 assists, further worsening his rating to -7. As a result, the Calgary Flames have decided to waive veteran defenseman Tyson Barrie.
When an NHL player gets waived, it means that they are made available for other NHL teams to acquire them. The Flames had signed a year’s contract with defenseman Tyson Barrie. The contract was worth $1.25 million. On Thursday, the Flames waived their defenseman Tyson Barrie, and on Wednesday, a day earlier, the Calgary Flames had AHL defenseman Yan Kuznetsov and AHL defenseman Ilya Solovyov called over.

The head coach of the Calgary Flames, Ryan Huska, shared a word or two about their newly waived defenseman Tyson Barrie

Ryan Huska shared, “I have a lot of respect and time for him, maybe because of our history. I think he’s a real good individual, and he’s a great teammate around the room. I’ve got a lot of things I would say about him, but again, we have to see how this process shakes out tomorrow.”
HC Calgary Flames Barrie Huska and defenseman Tyson Barrie won the Western Hockey League title with the Edmonton Oilers in 2015. They were also accompanied by Calgary Flames captain Mikael Backlund.

33 YO NHL defenseman Tyson Barrie may be replaced by 24 YO AHL defender Ilya Solovyov and 22 YO AHL defender Yan Kuznetsov

Tyson Barrie has skated for over 822 NHL years. Tyson is a veteran defenseman who carries 110 goals and 508 points in his career stats.
Darren Haynes, Contributor for The Canadian Press, shared on his official X account,
“With Tyson Barrie, 33, being put on waivers, and Ilya Solovyov, 24, and Yan Kuznetsov, 22, recalled from the AHL, Flames just got younger and arguably better. Barrie’s last NHL game wasn’t good. Solovyov’s last NHL game was excellent. This is the right move. Invest in the future.”
Defensemen Yan Kuznetsov and Ilya Solovyov were recalled by the Calgary Flames from the AHL’s Calgary Wranglers to the NHL’s Calgary Flames two days back, that is, on Wednesday.
Ilya Solovyov has played 43 games in the Calgary Wranglers and Calgary Flames and accumulated a rating of +16. Yan Kuznetsov played ice hockey for 49 games in the Calgary Wranglers and Calgary Flames and acquired a rating of +22.
