The Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences, in collaboration with the Zoological Survey of India, is striving to resurrect the extinct Indian cheetah. Scientists are in the final phase of whole genome sequencing and plan to use gene editing on African cheetah DNA to make it India-specific.

Lucknow's Geological Survey of India, Northern Region headquarters, relocated from Lahore to Lucknow in 1947. Paleontologist Ashok Sahni reminisces about his father, Mulk Raj Sahni, who served at GSI and hoisted the first national flag there. The Sahni family has made significant contributions to science, with members like Ashok's uncle Birbal Sahni, a pioneer in paleobotany.

Chhattisgarh's Gondwana marine fossil park in the MCB district, established in March 2022, showcases fossils from over 280 million years ago. It is the largest marine fossil park in Asia. The park aids in understanding the evolution of marine life and promotes tourism, education, and research. Efforts are underway to nominate the park as a Unesco world heritage site.
