A Congress supported sarpanch of Vikas Nagar panchayat in Patiala district was shot by armed assailants on Tuesday morning when he was overseeing construction work of his new house in the locality.

The family members and supporters of murdered Congress sarpanch Tara Dutt held a protest near the bus stand in Patiala on Wednesday demanding immediate arrest of the accused involved in the killing. Dutt was a close associate of minister Brahm Mohindra.
