The prestigious culinary guide has bestowed the coveted Michelin star upon 37-year-old Indian chef Garima Arora's restaurant Gaa in a delightful turn of events at the Michelin Guide ceremony in Thailand.
Gaa, a modern Indian fine dining establishment located in an exquisitely renovated traditional Thai house in Bangkok's heart, has held one Michelin star since 2018, making
Garima the first Indian female chef to be awarded one at the age of 32.
She took to her Instagram handle the share the happy news with her fans. Garima posted a click with her whole team and expressed gratitude.
Garima wrote, "The last year has been a whirlwind. From having baby Aham to learning how to balance parenthood and running a business. In this time my strongest support has been this amazing team who today created history yet again by winning two Michelin stars. Can never thank them enough. And congratulations to every single one of them. P.S. Some faces are missing."
Garima's co-chef and brother from MasterChef India Vikas Khanna was overjoyed with the news, he shared a throwback video to congratulate, he wrote, "Today might be “one of the most historic days for Indian Cuisine on a global platform”. THE GARIMA ARORA was awarded 2 Michelin Stars by @michelinguide @michelininspectors making her the first female Chef from our country for this honor. In another post, he shared how he made Garima wear a saree and wrote, "It’s past 2 am in New York & we are still celebrating Garima Arora... Sari Power. Sari Kushiyan. Sari Tarakiyan. Sari Duas are with youuuu @arorgarima... I waited for this day for 4 decades."
Not only Vikas, even Ranveer Brar penned a heartfelt note for Garima, he wrote, "WORLD, STAND UP AND TAKE NOTICE To go where no Indian woman has gone before and to do it with so much grace and humility speaks a lot about you as a chef and as a human being. All this while bearing and then bringing up Aham and managing everything else with so much ease. It's no easy feat to be the FIRST Indian woman to be bestowed with the second Michelin star and only the second Indian chef to do so."
