Akola: A tense situation arose in Akola on Monday during the celebration of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti at Washim Bypass Chowk, in the jurisdiction of Old City police station. An unidentified individual allegedly threw stones at a group participating in the celebration, creating panic and temporary unrest in the area.
Sensing the seriousness of the situation, the police deployed at the site acted promptly to bring the situation under control. Both groups were calmed, and minor force was reportedly used by the police to disperse the crowd and restore order. Senior police officials quickly reached the spot and assessed the situation.
Assistant commissioner of police (ACP) Satish Kulkarni stated that the incident appeared to be the act of a miscreant attempting to disturb the peaceful celebration. He confirmed that police intervention prevented the matter from escalating further.
An FIR has been registered at the Old City police station against an unidentified person, and an investigation has been launched. Police are trying to determine whether the incident was pre-planned or stemmed from a personal dispute.
The police department has appealed to citizens to stay calm, avoid spreading or believing in rumorus, and help maintain peace. Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to ensure safety and prevent any recurrence of such incidents.
