Mohanlal has made a roaring return to form with ‘Thudarum’, directed by
Tharun Moorthy, as the film recorded a powerful Day 1 box office collection of Rs 5.25 crore (India net) across all languages, according to early estimates reported by the Sacnilk website.
Biggest comebackThis marks one of the biggest comebacks for the Malayalam superstar, whose recent outings had failed to impress fans or the box office.
The Malayalam version of 'Thudarum' saw strong occupancy on its opening Friday, April 25, 2025, recording an overall Malayalam occupancy of 62.27%. The film's night shows peaked with an impressive 84% occupancy, reflecting the growing word-of-mouth and fan excitement. Major centres like Kochi and Kozhikode witnessed a near-houseful response in the evening and night shows, with Kochi registering a massive 99% occupancy during the night.

Much needed comeback for Mohanlal‘Thudarum's solid start with positive reviews and Mohanlal’s compelling performance signal a much-needed box office revival for the veteran actor.
Our reviewWe gave the film a 3 star rating and our review reads, “Jakes Bejoy’s music elevates the scenes, making a real impact in the storytelling. Shaji Kumar’s cinematography is excellent and it is perfectly coordinated with the edits by Shafeeque VB and Nishadh Yusuf. Their collective work lay the ground for the mood of the film. Tharun, whose last film Saudi Vellakka won a National Awards, could have done better to have created a more subtle story; this very much has an ‘80s-’90s feel. For Mohanlal fans, his raw magnetism might be exciting, but with its loud and overwritten scenes, the acting lacks nuance all around.”
