Anti aging influencer and billionaire
Bryan Johnson has shifted his office into a hyperbaric oxygen chamber. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy or HBOT has been a part of his longevity protocol.
He took to X to share the benefits of HBOT or the hyperbaric oxygen therapy.
"HBOT is possibly the word's best whole-body skin rejuvenation therapy:
+ 12.8% increase in collagen fiber density
+ 144% increase in elastic fiber length + reduced fragmentation 90% to 10%.
+ 40.9% increase in skin blood vessel count
+ 84.3% increase in CD31 blood vessel specific marker
+ 21% reduction in senescent cells," he posted on X.
Bryan's unusual workspace has triggered curiosity and criticism. "Have you ever thought about doing any actual human living with this expanded life of yours? LIke you're sitting in a Matrix pod," writes one user.
"Be very careful about using your electronics in there. So long as they're in good condition you should be fine, but if batteries start swelling or cables start fraying, that device needs to go. Don't insert USB cables in there. One spark, and you're going to have a very bad day," writes another user.
"It’s not wise to have non-intrinsically safe electronics in hyperbaric chambers. High partial pressure in a potentially O2 rich environment is a recipe for fire. Look into it," writes a third user on X.
What exactly is HBOT?
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is a medical treatment that involves breathing 100% pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber. This therapy increases oxygen levels in the blood, promoting faster healing and reducing inflammation. Normally, oxygen is transported by red blood cells, but under hyperbaric conditions, oxygen dissolves directly into plasma, allowing it to reach deeper tissues and areas with poor circulation.
During the therapy, patients sit or lie inside a specially designed chamber while the air pressure is increased 1.5 to 3 times higher than normal atmospheric pressure. Each session lasts 60–120 minutes, depending on the condition being treated.
So, does that mean more oxygen slows down aging?
Increased oxygen levels can slow down aging by enhancing cellular repair, reducing inflammation, and boosting energy production.
Oxygen also enhances collagen production, keeping skin firm and reducing wrinkles. It improves circulation, delivering more nutrients to tissues and preventing age-related diseases like Alzheimer’s, heart disease, and arthritis. Athletes and biohackers use oxygen therapies to boost recovery and maintain cognitive sharpness as they age.
However, excessive oxygen exposure (especially at high pressures) can lead to stress, which accelerates aging instead.
