Travis Kelce’s future replacement? Chiefs target Harold Fannin Jr. and Tyler Warren in NFL draft

As Travis Kelce nears the end of his career, the Kansas City Chiefs are eyeing tight end prospects Harold Fannin Jr. and Tyler Warren to potentially replace him. Fannin’s raw talent and Warren’s versatile playmaking abilities make them key targets in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Chiefs must decide whether to develop Fannin or trade up for Warren’s immediate impact.

Travis Kelce is suiting up for another NFL season, but even legends have a final chapter. After a statistically underwhelming year and visible signs of wear, Kansas City may soon turn the page on one of its most iconic stars. With the Chiefs quietly preparing for the post-Kelce era, attention has shifted to two intriguing tight end prospects: Harold Fannin Jr. and Tyler Warren.

Kelce’s impact on the Chiefs’ dynasty is undeniable, but time is catching up. As Patrick Mahomes continues to evolve, the offense needs a fresh spark at tight ends, someone who can eventually shoulder the load Kelce has carried for over a decade.
That brings us to Bowling Green’s Harold Fannin Jr., a breakout star who shattered expectations in 2024. At 6’3”, 241 pounds, Fannin led the FBS in both receptions (117) and receiving yards (1,555), becoming the first tight end to win his conference’s Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year honors. He’s also the first consensus All-American in school history. His hands are reliable, his footwork smooth, and his after-catch ability electric.
But he’s still raw. While Fannin posted a solid 73.7 blocking grade, the best among pass-catching tight ends, he needs polish in his route precision and blocking consistency. That’s where Kelce’s mentorship could be a game-changer, allowing the rookie to develop within the system before taking the reins.

Warren's star power comes at a price — Will the Chiefs make a move?

Then there’s Tyler Warren, the draft’s most coveted tight end. At 6’5”, 250+ pounds, Warren is a versatile weapon who lined up in six different roles last season. He not only hauled in big plays but also rushed for 218 yards and four touchdowns. Warren's athleticism and adaptability have scouts buzzing, and comparisons to Kelce are hard to ignore.

The catch is Kansas City holds the 31st pick, and Warren is projected to go in the top 10, likely to a team like the Bears. That means the Chiefs would have to pull off a blockbuster trade if they want him in red and gold.
So, do the Chiefs roll the dice on raw potential with Fannin or push the chips in for a proven, plug-and-play star like Warren? Either way, Kansas City is laying the foundation for life after Kelce and the future looks promising.
