Doctor assaulted by patient’s kin at AIIMS hospital in Bhopal

In Bhopal, an AIIMS doctor was allegedly assaulted by relatives of a patient referred from Rewa. While Dr. Azeem Shahbaz explained the treatment plan, Sushil Dwivedi, the patient's cousin, attacked him, tearing his clothes.

BHOPAL: A doctor was allegedly assaulted by a patient's kin in the trauma/emergency ward of AIIMS Hospital on Monday afternoon while he was detailing the patient's condition and further course of treatment to them. The patient was referred to AIIMS from Rewa.
The accused tore off the doctor's clothes. Acting on the complaint, Bag Sewania police registered a case against the prime accused and his associate under relevant sections of BNS and The Prevention of Violence Against Healthcare Professionals.
Bag Sewania SHO Amit Soni said that the incident took place around 1 pm in the trauma ward of AIIMS Hospital. A 39-year-old male patient was referred to AIIMS from Rewa. He was injured in a road accident. A pick-up hit his bike head-on. He was brought to Bhopal in a critical state. He was accompanied by two family members.
SHO Soni said that the doctors admitted the patient to the hospital and were explaining the procedure to the kin accompanying the patient. Dr Azeem Shahbaz, 28, a resident doctor who is pursuing a PG course at AIIMS, was explaining the further course of treatment to the family members.
One of the kin, Sushil Dwivedi, 32, cousin of the patient, lost his temper and attacked Dr Shahbaz with his accomplice. He tore off the doctor's clothes. The hospital security guard intervened to save the doctor. Subsequently, the doctors approached Bag Sewania police and lodged a complaint. A case was registered, and further investigations are ongoing.
